Module 3 · Calls, follow-ups and offers Lesson 8 of 15

Emailing a recruiter without sounding desperate

Learning objective

Four lines: the reference number and role, one line on why you fit, one attachment, one line of thanks. Anything longer is not read, and "kindly do the needful" reads as a template to everybody who receives fifty of them.

Worked example

A business-style greeting, a clear subject line with the role and reference number, and a file named Firstname_Lastname_Resume.pdf instead of resume_final_new.pdf. Details like the filename are noticed.

Your practice task

Write and send one real follow-up email for a job you actually applied to, with the resume renamed properly.

Do this before moving on. Reading a solution teaches the shape of it; typing it teaches you.

Key takeaway

Four lines: the reference number and role, one line on why you fit, one attachment, one line of thanks. Anything longer is not read, and "kindly do the needful" reads as a template to everybody who receives fifty of them.
